Here’s a new project I just completed for Select Beer Bottle Shop and Tap Room. It’s a new beer tasting establishment and store located in the Redondo Beach area of Los Angeles. I was brought in primarily to help out with the logo design and fellow designer, Margaret Magee was handling the launch materials.

To try and attract the die-hard beer aficionados, we decided to try and give the logo a bit of a retro or ‘new classic’ vibe to the design. It gives the store an established and familiar appearance that many of your old haunts already have.

So with that, exploration of cool, appropriate typefaces and element shapes was thrown into the design research. The design direction with a simple two-colored ribbon shaped like an implied ‘S’ was the favorite. From there, the challenge was to incorporate the rather lengthy and descriptive ‘bottle shop and tap room’ text into the design. I had some fun mating a nice script face with the simple and bold primary logotype. I think it turned out well.

Of course, any logo worth its salt for a beer establishment has got to look good etched on a glass. Am I right?
