Here's something new and different to show. Just finished some logo and broadcast design for the motocross documentary, Four Legends of Supercross which premiered on Sunday, February 28th on CBS.
Produced by Pipeline Digital Media and presented by Feld Motorsports, Four Legends is a one-of-a-kind documentary that takes a look into the minds and the lives behind four of the most successful Supercross riders to ever throw a leg over a motorcycle: Jeremy McGrath, Ricky Carmichael, Chad Reed and James Stewart. My assignment was to design a logo for the show that illustrated the energy and essence of Supercross and its many colorful personalities.Since Monster Energy was an initial sponsor, I had to try and incorporate their logo into the show design. This was not an easy task as theirs was not a very unified design, with flush left and centered design elements all in one logo. Readability was an important issue to try and overcome on what would surely be very busy and fast-moving images going on behind it. I tried to keep the color palette simplified and compatible with racing footage and the Monster logo, if possible.
After the initial round of designs shown, the producers settled on the direction you see above (left), but wanted to adjust the design to be centered and symmetrical. I obliged, but still feel my personal preference was the first one. Of course, as the production came closer to airing and more and more people making edit requests, my design was altered and became the version you see on the trailer clip here.

Fortunately, the production company was liking the look of the design, so I was asked to provide some broadcast supers to include in the rider's interview clips. Here are a couple of samples from those interviews.

Overall, I was pretty happy with how they turned out. I got invited to the premiere party to see the finished product which aired on CBS, this past Sunday. Unfortunately, the network had made some rather significant adjustments to the broadcast and my supers were eliminated from the final airing. Maybe next time.
